MANUAL HANDLING

½ Day Duration

The course is designed for all company employees.  Upon completion of the course the candidate/employer will be issued with a certificate of basic training.

AIM:

The aim of the course is to ensure employees have appropriate competence to enable the organisation and staff to meet their legal duties under the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

On completion of the course delegates should:

  • be aware of manual handling as an important health and safety issue.

  • know the factors that can lead to injury.

  • understand the principles of safe lifting and carrying and apply them to specific manual handling operations in the workplace.

  • understand the importance of reporting relevant health conditions.

  • be able to summarise the practical issues of manual handling.

  • know the legal background to the MHOR 1992.

  • understand the basics of manual handling assessment.

  • Understand basic control measures.

PREREQUISITES:

  • The operative should be medically fit to carry out the course.

TRAINING AT YOUR PREMISES.

The course commences at 0900hrs through 1600hrs.  Please note the following requirements of the instructor prior to commencement of the course:

  • Accommodation to be used as a temporary classroom for theory tuition.

  • Area to which training can be conducted away from work activities.

  • Operatives should not be expected to carry out work activities whilst on the training program.
